Sir Graham Vincent, 1891-1981, was a senior civil servant. From 1928 to 1936 he was Private Secretary/Principal Private Secretary to successive Prime Ministers, and Assistant Secretary to the Committee on Imperial Defence from 1936 to 1939. Stanley Baldwin (1867-1947) was born on 3 August 1867 in Lower Park, Bewdley, the son of industrialist Alfred Baldwin. He was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge, before joining the family iron and steel business. On leaving school he entered a solicitor's office, but at the age of twenty five he took up a scholarship at Ruskin College, Oxford and later at New College, Oxford.
